TL;DR: Two facts should anchor your planning. Paper-based IELTS was discontinued in the Philippines from 21 June 2026, so the test is computer-delivered with a face-to-face Speaking interview; and IDP Philippines published fees effective 1 July 2026 of PHP 14,470 for standard IELTS on computer, PHP 15,059 for UKVI on computer, and PHP 8,320 for a standard One Skill Retake. Review course fees are separate and are not published to any market standard, so compare written quotations rather than ranges. The one thing worth paying for is individually marked Writing and Speaking, because those are the two bands you genuinely cannot raise alone.
Most guides to IELTS preparation in the Philippines are lists of price ranges by city. Those ranges are unsourced, they age badly, and they steer you toward the wrong question. The useful question is not what a course costs in Cebu but what a course must contain to be worth anything at all, in any city.
This guide covers what the test now is, what it costs, what a review centre can genuinely change, and the six checks to run before paying.
What the Test Is Now
IELTS reports on a nine-band scale across Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, with an overall band that is the average of the four rounded to the nearest half band. Two changes matter for how you prepare:
- Computer-delivered only in the Philippines since paper-based IELTS was discontinued on 21 June 2026. Speaking remains a face-to-face interview with an examiner.
- The One Skill Retake exists, allowing a single section to be re-sat rather than the whole test, at a lower fee.
The first of those changes what you should practise on. Timed practice on paper builds pacing habits that do not transfer cleanly to a screen, particularly in Reading, where scrolling and on-screen navigation cost time that a paper reader does not spend.
What It Costs
These are the test fees published by IDP Philippines as taking effect 1 July 2026. They are the fee for sitting the examination and are entirely separate from any preparation course.

Fees are set locally by the test providers and are revised periodically. Read the amount on the official booking page for your test type on the day you book, and note that the British Council and IDP both administer IELTS in the Philippines.

Academic, General Training or UKVI
Choosing the wrong module is the most expensive avoidable mistake in the process, because the remedy is sitting again at full price.

Listening and Speaking are common across the modules. The decision belongs to whoever receives the score, so ask the university, regulator or immigration authority in writing before booking, and keep the reply.
What a Review Centre Can Actually Change
Be precise about this, because it determines whether the fee is justified.
Listening and Reading are objectively marked. Improvement comes from volume of timed practice and from learning question types. A course can organise that for you; it cannot do anything you could not do with practice material and a timer.
Writing and Speaking are marked against published band descriptors by trained examiners. Improvement comes almost entirely from someone competent telling you which descriptor your response currently meets and precisely what would move it up. This is the one thing you cannot supply yourself, and it is what you are actually paying for.
Pacing and format familiarity sit in between. A course that runs full-length, timed, computer-delivered simulations gives you this. A course that runs lectures does not.
Which means a programme with no individually marked Writing and Speaking output is selling you organisation, at a price. That may still be worth it if you will not organise yourself. Be clear that this is what you are buying.
Six Checks Before You Pay
- Who marks your Writing, and how many pieces? Ask for the number of marked essays included and the marker's qualification. A vague answer is an answer.
- How many minutes of one-to-one Speaking practice with feedback? Group discussion is not the same thing.
- How many full-length, timed, computer-delivered mocks? Two or three under realistic conditions is the useful floor.
- What is the class size? Speaking time per student falls linearly as the group grows.
- Is there a diagnostic first, and will they tell you honestly how long you need? A centre that quotes a duration before testing you is quoting its product, not your gap.
- What exactly does the guarantee promise? Almost always a repeat course, not a band. Read the clause.

Finding Centres Near You

Practical notes on geography, without inventing prices:
- Metro Manila has the densest concentration of providers, with evening and weekend formats aimed at working professionals in the business districts and daytime formats near the university belt.
- Cebu has an unusually deep pool of English-teaching staff because of its long-established ESL industry serving foreign students, and several providers there bundle accommodation for out-of-town learners.
- Regional centres including Davao, Angeles and the Cavite cities have grown their own provision, which for many learners removes a commute that was itself a barrier to attending consistently.

Online Programmes
Live online classes with examiner-level feedback are a legitimate substitute for in-person study for most learners, and they remove travel entirely, which for anyone outside a major city is often the difference between attending every session and drifting away by week three.
