Best Architecture Schools in the Philippines

TL;DR: Two facts should shape how you read every architecture-school ranking, including this one. First, PRC's own top-performing threshold is 50+ examinees and an 80 per cent overall passing rate (Commission Resolution No. 2017-1058 (C), s. 2017) — so a small school's "100 per cent" is not comparable to a large school's 85 per cent. Second, the national ALE rate is high: 82.07 per cent in January 2026 and 85.1 per cent in June 2026, because RA 9266 filters the cohort with a two-year experience requirement before anyone sits. On cost, state universities charge ₱0 under RA 10931, and among private schools UST publishes — its College of Architecture runs ₱79,723 first term at Level I, rising to ₱103,968 at Level IV. Most others publish nothing.

Introduction

Architecture is one of the most demanding undergraduate programmes in the Philippines. BS Architecture takes five years, followed by two years of certified diversified architectural experience required by RA 9266, and then the Architect Licensure Examination.

Before the list, two corrections to what you will read elsewhere.

The ALE is not a 40-55 per cent exam. That figure circulates widely and is wrong for the current cycles. PRC's own releases put it at 82.07 per cent in January 2026 (1,998 of 2,434) and 85.1 per cent in June 2026 (2,799 of 3,290). The reason is not that the paper got easier; it is that RA 9266's two-year experience requirement means everybody sitting has already spent two years in practice. Compare it with an open-entry exam like the Civil Service Exam at roughly 15 per cent and the difference is about who is in the room.

Per-school passing rates are published, but only by PRC. With each release PRC issues a Performance of Schools table, and it names top-performing schools under a specific rule — at least 50 examinees and at least 80 per cent overall passing. Any school-by-school percentage you find that does not trace back to that table is somebody's estimate. This guide does not print such percentages, and you should be suspicious of guides that do.

So what follows is not a ranking by fabricated pass rates. It is a shortlist of the programmes worth investigating, described by the things that can actually be checked — accreditation, published fees, campus, curriculum emphasis — with instructions for pulling the board data yourself.

Ten Architecture Schools Worth Shortlisting

1. University of Santo Tomas (UST) — College of Architecture

University of Santo Tomas runs the oldest architecture programme in the country, and it is the only school on this list whose architecture fees you can read before you apply. UST's published schedule for the first term of A.Y. 2026-2027 puts the College of Architecture at ₱79,723 in Level I, climbing to ₱103,968 in Level IV before dropping in the fifth year. Those are first-term figures; the second term is billed separately, and the climb across year levels is the pattern to budget for. The underlying rates are ₱1,959 per lecture unit and ₱3,918 per laboratory or studio unit — studio work costs exactly double, which is why architecture sits near the top of UST's college range.

The programme is studio-based, with intensive hours on design plates, models and presentations, and the historic Manila campus is itself a working case study in Philippine architectural heritage.

2. University of the Philippines Diliman — College of Architecture

UP Diliman offers a design-centred programme emphasising critical thinking, social responsibility and Filipino architectural identity, with strengths in sustainable design and urban planning. Studio culture is intense and collaborative.

On cost, correct a common error: UP does not charge a per-unit tuition rate to eligible Filipino undergraduates. Under RA 10931 tuition and other school fees are ₱0. The barrier at UP is not money — it is the UPCAT.

3. Mapua University

Mapua University is a long-established technical university whose architecture programme sits alongside its engineering faculties in Intramuros — the historic walled city, which gives design studios unusual immediate context. The school is known for digital fabrication and Building Information Modelling in its technical curriculum.

One structural point that catches applicants out: Mapua runs a multi-term (quarter) calendar rather than two semesters, so a per-term figure is not comparable to a per-semester figure elsewhere. 4. FEU Institute of Technology (FEU Tech)

FEU Tech, formerly FEU-East Asia College, runs a technology-forward BS Architecture programme with an emphasis on parametric and computational design and environmental sustainability, backed by the Far Eastern University network's resources. Studios have access to 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC facilities.

FEU Tech does not publish an architecture fee schedule; ask admissions.

5. Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP)

Technological Institute of the Philippines approaches architecture from an engineering school's angle, which shows in how its students handle building systems, construction methods and project management. TIP operates campuses in Manila and Quezon City, both with dedicated architecture studios.

6. Bulacan State University (BulSU)

Bulacan State University is the leading public option for architecture in Central Luzon, through its College of Architecture and Fine Arts, with strong ties to the Bulacan construction industry. The Malolos campus is reachable from Manila via NLEX and public transport.

As a state university, BulSU charges ₱0 in tuition to eligible Filipino undergraduates under RA 10931. Figures you may see quoted for BulSU tuition predate that law or describe non-eligible students.

7. Adamson University

Adamson University runs its BS Architecture through a Vincentian institution with a service-oriented emphasis — community housing design, disaster-resilient construction and heritage conservation feature in its project work, and students take part in design competitions and workshops. The San Marcelino campus sits inside Manila's university district.

Adamson does not publish an architecture fee schedule.

8. Saint Louis University (SLU) — Baguio

Saint Louis University in Baguio runs the leading architecture programme in Northern Luzon through its School of Architecture, Fine Arts and Design. The setting is a genuine curricular asset rather than a marketing line: Baguio's mountainous terrain forces students to think seriously about site planning, slope, and climate-responsive design for the tropical highlands, and the programme covers indigenous Cordillera building traditions.

9. Cebu Institute of Technology — University (CIT-U)

Cebu Institute of Technology — University is the strongest architecture option in the Visayas, with an emphasis on tropical and resort architecture that follows the local property and tourism market, plus CAD and BIM labs and links to Cebu-based firms for apprenticeship placements — which matters more than usual here, given the two-year experience requirement standing between graduation and the licence.

CIT-U does not publish a public per-programme fee schedule and directs enquiries to its Admission Office.

10. Palawan State University (PSU)

Palawan State University runs a younger architecture programme built around ecological and environmentally sensitive design, which the location makes real — Puerto Princesa sits inside a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve, so designing within ecological constraint is not a theoretical exercise there.

As a state university PSU charges ₱0 in tuition to eligible Filipino undergraduates under RA 10931.

Note what this table does and does not contain. Every cell is either a published figure or an honest "not published." There is no ALE column, because no school on this list publishes its own ALE rate and PRC's Performance of Schools table is the only authoritative source — go and read it for the cycle you care about.

How to Choose the Right Architecture School

Read PRC's Performance of Schools table yourself

This is the single highest-value thing you can do, and almost nobody does it. PRC publishes a Performance of Schools table with every ALE release, alongside the top-performing list drawn under Commission Resolution No. 2017-1058 (C) — 50 or more examinees and at least 80 per cent overall passing.

Two things to watch when you read it. Check the examinee count, not just the percentage. A school passing 6 of 6 reads as 100 per cent and tells you almost nothing; a school passing 170 of 200 tells you a great deal. That is precisely why PRC's own threshold has a volume floor in it. And check more than one cycle, because a single strong year is noise.

Ask about the apprenticeship pipeline

RA 9266 requires two years of diversified architectural experience, certified by a licensed architect, before you may sit the ALE. That is two years of your life sitting between graduation and the exam, and how easily you find a suitable placement depends heavily on the school's firm relationships. Ask admissions a direct question: where did last year's graduating class do their diversified training, and does the school place them or leave them to it? For provincial schools especially, this can matter more than anything in the curriculum.

Visit the design studios

Architecture is a studio-based programme. You will spend more time in the studio than in any classroom. Look at workspace quality, lighting, model-making areas and fabrication tools. A cramped, badly lit studio will make five years miserable in a way no prospectus discloses.

Ask about faculty

The strongest programmes are taught substantially by practising architects, not only by academics. Faculty who run their own firms bring live design problems, industry contacts and — again — apprenticeship routes.

Cost the full five years, and get the schedule for every year level

BS Architecture is a five-year degree, so it carries 25 per cent more tuition than a four-year one. And within a school the rate is not flat: UST's own schedule shows architecture climbing from ₱79,723 in Level I to ₱103,968 in Level IV before dropping in the fifth year. If you cost the degree from the first-year figure you will underestimate it. Ask for the schedule of fees for every year level.

Then add materials, which no school publishes and which are substantial for this course specifically: model materials, large-format printing, and software.

At a state university all of that tuition is ₱0, which changes the arithmetic completely.

Evaluate design culture and thesis quality

Browse the school's thesis exhibitions or visit an open house. Strong thesis work signals a rigorous design curriculum better than any brochure. An active United Architects of the Philippines student chapter and competition entries are good signs.

On the passing rates this guide does not print. Earlier versions of this page carried per-school ALE percentage bands. They were not traceable to PRC's Performance of Schools tables and have been removed rather than softened. If you need a specific school's rate, take it from the PRC release for the cycle you care about.
