University of the Philippines Mindanao

University of the Philippines Mindanao (UP Mindanao) is the youngest constituent university of the UP System, created through Republic Act No. 7889, signed by President Fidel V. Ramos on February 20, 1995, with the UP Board of Regents formally establishing the campus on March 22, 1995. It is located in Barangay Mintal, Tugbok District, Davao City, and centers its academic programs on food security, governance, and Mindanao development. UP Mindanao began with four undergraduate degrees, two graduate programs, and three non-degree courses, and has since expanded its offerings in the sciences, mathematics, humanities, and management. As part of the UP System, it operates under Republic Act No. 9500, the UP Charter of 2008, which grants the university institutional and fiscal autonomy as the country's national university. Undergraduate admission is through the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT). Because it is a state university, tuition for qualified Filipino undergraduates is free under Republic Act No. 10931, the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, though minimal miscellaneous fees still apply. UP Mindanao follows the same academic calendar, grading system, and faculty standards as the UP System's other constituent universities in Diliman, Los Baños, Manila, Visayas, Baguio, and the Open University.
