University of Saint Louis (USL) in Tuguegarao, Cagayan traces its roots to the Cagayan Valley Atheneum, established in 1938 by Dutch bishop and educator Constant Jurgens. The Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) missionaries took over its administration and renamed it University of Saint Louis in 1965. It remains a private, non-profit Catholic university run by the CICM Fathers, with the motto "Sapientia Aedificat" (Wisdom Builds). USL is organized into five schools: the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering; the School of Education, Criminology, Arts, and Psychology; the School of Accountancy, Business, and Hospitality; the School of Health and Allied Sciences; and the Basic Education School, which covers kindergarten through senior high school. As the main CICM-run Catholic university in the Cagayan Valley region, USL serves as a primary higher-education option for students from Tuguegarao and surrounding Cagayan province who want a full K-12-through-college Catholic education without traveling to Manila.
