St. John's Institute (華明中學)
St. John's Institute, also known by its Chinese name Hua Ming (華明中學), is a Catholic-inspired school in Bacolod City founded in 1959 by the Bacolod Chinese Catholic Association with Fr. Peter Tsang as its first principal, growing out of a Chinese Catholic community organized in the 1950s by Msgr. John B. Liu and Msgr. John Su. Classes first met in market stalls at the Capitol Shopping Center before the school occupied its own building on Hilado Street later that year. SJI follows DepEd's K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum enriched with Chinese language and culture instruction, offering Pre-Elementary (nursery, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten), Grade School Level 1 and Level 2, Junior High School (Level 3), and Senior High School (Level 4) with Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) tracks. Its main campus is in Capitol Shopping Center, with a second campus at Ayala North Point in Talisay City that includes an air-conditioned gym-auditorium and a 10-lane, 50-meter competition swimming pool. Other facilities include computer laboratories, separate elementary and high school libraries, a clinic, and a food hall. SJI does not offer a college program.
