St. John's Academy

St. John's Academy is a private, non-sectarian school in San Juan City, Metro Manila, founded in 1930 by seven sisters of the Marquez family, daughters of public school teacher Gregorio Marquez, who used money from their father to rent the building and lot for the school's first campus. One of the founding sisters, Paz Marquez-Benitez, went on to become a pioneering Filipino writer in English, known for the short story "Dead Stars." The school still occupies its original one-hectare lot on what was then Valenzuela Street, later renamed Jose Gil Street after the son of co-founder Concepcion Marquez-Gil. Despite its name, the school is not affiliated with any religious order and is not named after St. John the Baptist. It currently offers Junior High School and Senior High School under the DepEd K-12 curriculum.
