Abellana National School
Abellana National School is a public secondary school on Osmena Boulevard in Barangay Sambag II, Cebu City, run by the Department of Education. Its roots go back to 1902, when it was organized as the first Provincial High School under Act No. 372 of the Philippine Commission. When the Provincial High School moved to Argao in 1945, Cebu City opened a new City High School on the vacated site, later renamed Abellana High School in honor of Cebu governor Hilario Abellana, who was killed during the Japanese occupation. It went through further name changes as Abellana Technical School and Abellana Vocational High School before Republic Act 3027 established its current name, Abellana National School, in 1961. As of school year 2018-2019 the school had more than 5,200 students, per Wikipedia, making it one of the larger public secondary schools in Cebu City. Notable alumni include former Philippine President Carlos P. Garcia and former Chief Justices Marcelo B. Fernan and Hilario G. Davide Jr.
